The Zig Zag Experience
AJ & The Zig Zags is a four-piece rock band based out of the Columbus, GA / Phenix City, AL area, built on a raw, rugged blues-rock foundation with no ceiling on where the music can go. Loud, loose, and jam-driven, the band thrives on feel, instinct, and the kind of musical conversation that only happens when players trust each other completely.
Fronted by AJ Reese on guitar and vocals, the band features Rusty on bass, Ty Ambrose on drums and vocals, and Chris Johnson on harmonica. While the band calls the Deep South home, its members come from across the country—Ty from Maine, Rusty having lived out West and up North, and Chris from Florida—forming a true melting pot of American music. Those varied roots show up in the sound: blues, rock, punk, folk, metal, pop, and everything in between, all filtered through a shared love of expression over expectation.
In 2025, AJ & The Zig Zags recorded their EP The Love / The Lost / & The Lazy at Lakewood Sound Studios, capturing the band in their most natural environment. The record blends blues-soaked rock with infectious hooks and unpolished honesty, highlighted by tracks like “Me & You,” “Just Thinkin’ ’Bout You,” and “Little Reaction.” It’s a snapshot of connection, longing, and reflection—music that doesn’t rush to explain itself, but lets the feeling do the talking.
Live, AJ & The Zig Zags are at their most alive. The band plays as often as possible, delivering shows that are loud, loose, and jammy, with moments of intimacy woven into the chaos.
